What should one be taking into consideration when traveling to Spain?

May 14th, 2012

Well first of all it is a lot bigger then it looks so if you are planning to travel around, concider the travel time. Also keep in mind that in certain areas, mugging, pickpocketing, and sexual assault are major issues. I know a woman who was mugged twice in Barcalona and I was with a friend who was nearly pickpocketed in Seville. Ibiza also has lots of cases of mugging and sexual assaults. That is not to say that you shouldn't go. Spain is a facisnating place to visit. Just be carefully and alert. Don't walk down dark alleys at night. I noticed a couple of times that I was being followed in Barcalona so I turned around and made eye contact and the person turned and walked the other way. Also be carefully of people in pairs or group trying to sell you things. Sometimes one is distracting you while the other picks your pocket. I have actually seen this happen. Just pay attention to what is happening.Other then that, enjoy. Try the local wines, they are great. Go to a nice Tapas place where they will pair the wine with the Tapas. Eat where the locals eat. Spanish food is really good. Also try and learn a few Spanish phrases. It isn't a difficult language so you should try and it makes them really happy. Also a lot of people dont' speak English so it will help. 5 years ago thanks

Portable gps devices for travel in USA and Spain?

May 14th, 2012

- Chosen by Voters $10/day times 14 days, you're looking at the cost of a brand new handheld GPS as it is. Even the lower end handhelds will have basic maps of the whole world in them. Many have removable memory cards that you can load street level maps onto for wherever you're travelling to. You don't have to get something as fancy as a TomTom, just pick up a Garmin eTrex and get the Mapsource CD's for the regions of interest. If you have no use for them after your travels, you could always put it up on eBay and sell it for a good amount afterwards. If you buy it on eBay to begin with, it might end up costing you nothing at all if you sell it again after you're done with it! 5 years ago 100% 1 Vote

Is Spain the only country whose capital is less visited than its other cities?

May 14th, 2012

- Chosen by Voters Hard to gather official and reliable statistics, but about visitors on museums: Florence is ranked number one, Rome second, Venice third; the news is from June, 1. Almost ten million people visited at least a museum in Florence or province during 2006.People visting Florence and Tuscany are so much a straight air link between NY and Pisa was needed…But after all is not so uncommon the capital is not the main touristic attraction: I never saw surveys about Brazil, but is very unlikable Brasilia is more visited than Rio de Janeiro :) 5 years ago 100% 2 Votes 1 person rated this as good

Can I travel to other countries in Europe with a French student visa?

May 14th, 2012

The Vice Consul also explained the importance, upon arriving in France, of immediately apply for the carte de résident at our local # Préfecture.# The visa de long séjour does not in fact give you permission to live in France, something of which many Americans are apparently not aware – if you stay in France for more than 3 months, you are required to have a carte de résident.' resident card for France ,for the duration of your stay only .if you have the carte de resident ? than you may travel in Europe .schengen countries only ;do not forget: to bring with you : A proof of resident status in the US ( e.g. , visa, I-94, IAP66, I-20, resident card ).and re-entry to US . 5 years ago Very concise and to the point

I am traveling to portugal and spain next summer…?

May 14th, 2012

- Chosen by Voters Don't miss the touristic areas. In Portugal, go to the north of the country and visit the Douro region. In the center visit towns like Coimbra, Aveiro or Figueira da Foz. Then move south to the Alentejo and Algarve regions and be sure you don't miss the lovely capital of Portugal. Lisbon is a relativelly small city (700.000 inhabitants) with a huge metropolitan area (up to 3.500.000 inhabitants) which has thousands of things to see. In Lisbon itself you have plenty of things to visit, from historical streets and monuments (take the Carris yellow tram car number 18 or 24 and you'll have a beautiful perspective of the city), to modern and developed areas as Parque das Nações. The city of Lisbon has a cosmopolitan way of life, offering everything you'd expect from a big city – huge shopping malls with thousands of both national and international companies, lots of street animation (especially in June and July) and an easy to use public transportation system. And I would recommend you to spend two days visiting the huge surroundings of the city, that varies from the UNESCO village of Sintra, to places in both sides of river Tagus, including sun bathing beaches in Cascais or Sesimbra.Bare in mind that in summer time weather could be unpleasantly hot for people not used to high temperatures. Clear sunny skies are guaranteed, and temperatures may vary from 25-32 degrees in the north to 35-45 degress in the south, especially in Alentejo, Algarve and in Lisbon metropolitan area (especially south of river Tagus)As for Spain…well, you'll have to ask someone else as I've been there as a tourist and, therefore, despite having enjoyed everyone of all the places I have already visited, I haven't enough reliable information to give you! But I can assure you that both Portugal and Spain have amazing things to offer. 4 years ago 100% 2 Votes

Im traveling to spain and only have 10kg luggage allowance is it possible?

May 13th, 2012

- Chosen by Voters It's possible. Remember that with Ryanair, your hand luggage must be no more than 55cmx40cmx20cm, and weigh no more than 10kg. You are only allowed 1 piece of hand luggage including handbag, laptop & etc… Read this to check: http://www.ryanair.com/en/questions/cabi…Check in luggage will give you 15kg more, but will cost you 20 pounds each way.Tips on packing light:1) Wear all your heaviest clothes, jeans, boots, jewlery, belts, thick wool jumper/cardigan, jacket/coat – as much as you can. Put a plastic bag in your pocket, to put things in once you are through security / on the plane, to be able to strip off and not get too hot, and generally be more confortable. Passing through security will be a hassle, as you will have to take most of it off (boots, coat, belt), but worth it to save the 40 pounds it costs to check luggage in. Remind yourself of the money you are saving, as the queue builds up behind you, while you waddle through the scanner in your socks, looking like the elephant woman in a double jumper).2) Wear something with big pockets, or find a small bag, that can be worn under your coat (a flat satchel or a duffle back pack). Fill is with your heaviest things that don't take up too much room (eg books, magazines, liquids, coins, phone, ipod, valuables…. Remember to keep the bag hidden when checking in, and when entering the boarding lounge, but TAKE IT OFF to go through security. Wear the bag in a position that is is not obvious, for example round the stomache. All the thick heavy clothing will help disguise it.3) Plan your outfits carefully, so you only need one coat. Think of clothes that combine well, eg trousers that can be dressed up/down with different tops. tops that can be worn one day with trousers, and another with a skirt, etc. Dresses+tights are usually lighter than tousers+tops. Avoid any particularly heavy clothing, eg leather, demin, clothes with a lot of decoration. Try to limit yourself to 2 pair of shoes: one for the day that are comfortable for walking, and a more dressy pair. Chose one colour of shoes eg., and chose clothes that you can wear with them.4) Don't take anything you can buy over there at little expense. Remember you are saving 40 pounds by not checking in, so you can afford to buy toiletries and etc. that don't fit in the weight limit.5) Find out what will be provided in your accomodation: Don't pack hairdryer, towels, toiletries, if they will be provided.6) Weigh your case before you leave the house, you can go up to 10,49kg and it counts as 10kg. 10.5kg or more counts as 11kg.7) Chose your bag carefully, a sports bagg will weigh less than a suitcase. If you can find one of those cheap rafia bags in the right dimensions, these weight next to nothing. Try a pound store.8) Allow a bit extra time at the airport, to be able to deal with anything unexpected.Remember – anything you buy in Spain, will contribute to your weight limit on the way back – unless you can smuggle it under your coat that is. Source(s): Tried & tested. Ryanair, wont get a penny extra out of me – even if I have to dress like a clothes horse to manage it. 1 year ago 67% 2 Votes
