The first would be to catch a bus/taxi to Blanes railway station, nearby, and then get a train straight to Barcelona Sants station, where you can get your connecting train to Montmelo. The journey is also around an hour, costs 9.30€, but is less frequent. I would have the family in Spain call their family doctor and local hospital to find out the correct answer to your question since they would be the ones that will provide the medical treatment. Although my child is traveling home with an exchange student she is not in the student program. Just a minor child traveling home with her friend. Thankfully she has dual insurance coverage and both will cover her overseas.
