Why does comparing gene sequences offer more info for molecular evolution studies than comparing protein ?

April 2nd, 2012

(rest of question) sequences?

Repeats.
There are several different codons (3-base-pair sequences) that code for each amino acid.If all you know is what amino acid is being coded for, you don’t necessarily know which codon was actually present, while if you have the gene sequence, you do.

Traveling to Spain, July 3-17, How is Public Transportation or should I rent a car?

April 2nd, 2012

- Chosen by Voters I wanted to say that Madrid – Galicia – Sevilla – Madrid would be a lot of driving, I think for the average person it would be cheaper to fly or to get a train or coach than the cost of fuel.It is driving to the other end's of the country. Think of train prices are 50€ for each stop, sometimes there more sometimes there less. and fuel is (has gone up) to around 95cent a litre now (At the Hypermarkets) the branded fuels are as much as 1€+ (Still cheaper than last Summer!)So if you did want to work out the prices you can now. Also some rental car companies wouldn't allow you to drive this amount of kilometers.15 days, could even be not enough.www.spainair.eswww.iberia.es — cheap airlines that fly inside Spain, prices are from FREE (you pay 40€ for the tax) to 300€ !www.hertz.es – a car rential company, there are others but this is one I know.www.renfe.es – the train companycoaches… there are MANY diffrent companies, so you'd need to look at them from travel sites etc.Have a nice time, you could stay in Hostels and Motels – a brand of motels is www.ac.hotelsearch.com there are others also – there are some others. You'd be here for San Ferms (Running of the Bulls) if you wanted to see it for a day, you can sleep in your rental car. take a shower at the free shower points across the city. It is in Navarra – North East Spain, near France. and rember you don't have to rent a car for the entire trip, if the train from Madrid to Santander was maybe over 100€ per-person but it only cost 50€ a day to rent the car and around 100€ for fuel, then you could rent a car for this part of the trip. & most companies you can take the car back to a diffrent place you rented it from& Travel light – Have a nice time 3 years ago 40% 2 Votes

Why don’t I like Latinos/Latinas?

April 2nd, 2012

I go to a school where there are tons of Mexicans I don’t know how there numbers quadrupled, but ever since I came to High school there are mexicans everywhere, they act like there better than black people, and most of the time they’re mean to me like the time when this group of Latinas made fun of me in science class, and they spread a terrible rumor about me ruining most of my junior year now I’m a senior, and people forgot about the rumor, but I still can’t trust mexicans every time they come near me I cringe.

It’s like saying or asking: "Does Chuck Norris love to swim in water? No! Water just loves to be around him."

But being serious here, it’s not you disliking that particularr race, it’s pretty much them NOT liking you. It may sound absurd, but I’m a Native American, part of three tribes (meaning I’m mixed blooded), and have been living on a reservation with an entire community of full-blooded nativse. Since elementary, I was also picked on, but after a couple of years of just taking their crap and standing up for myself, they eventually just began to leave me alone, and started befriending me.

The reason why they were giving me grief in elementary, was because I was a mixed-blooded indian, and not full-blooded like they were. But now that I am a Sophmore in high-school (so I am in the same boat as you), it is just pretty obvious to see that it’s more of a clique. They stay in their group and say what they want. But if you can show your ground of resolve, or something along that line, then they will eventually leave you alone.

But all-in-all, it’s more of a clique. Nothing more, nothing less, despite what they are saying about "Why" they are doing that, it’s really a feeling of insecurity among themselves. I even seen this with three white kids that had gone to the same school as me. 2 of them were accepted…while the 3rd was mauled…cruel world eh?

Can someone help me with the Inca, Maya, and Aztec time periods?

April 2nd, 2012

Okay, as the subject suggests, I need help with these time periods for a history class of mine. Like, it’s near the ned of the school-year and the teacher is giving us a review and all the juicy goodness that teachers love.

Now, I still remember most of the core infomation (like Aztec’s were destroyed by the Spanish and their Luchador influence, Inca’s were known for their ruins in South American, and the Maya’s for the calender and writting), but it’s been a couple of months so I’m rather rusty. Of course,I can still get the infomation, I’m only here asking "What are the characteristics and achievements?"

Like, I remember the big ones, but not the small details I may have forgotten. So I would greatly appreciate if somebody could help with my question, because I’m having a hard time trying to figure out which is which.

P.S. I’m capable of doing the work myself, but my sister is on my case for not cleaning the house (even though I went through a long day at school, I am rather tired), so I have to do that now.

P.S.S. I’ve looked up each tribe in a search engine, and it either gave me some kind of hotel listing or some other stuff that’s not really helpful in my cause. So if someone can provide a link for site that can also help me with what I’m asking for, since I want to be able to say "I done this work myself." It’s just that I’m having trouble sumarizing their chararistics, but I think I am able to tell about their achievements.

P.P.S.S Please do not recommend me to a wikipedia site, as the teacher frowns upon that and does not credit it (and it’s also too much infomation to go through). But if everything I’m asking for is a bit too much, then if somebody could just recommend a site to me (and would be helpful to show the link as well), then I would be equally as happy as well.

You should look up a real encyclopedia like World Book, or Britannica. They would give all the info you need, and are available on line.

The extinct chocolate?

April 2nd, 2012

I saw recently on the news, that an extinct chocolate cocoa has came back in circulation. My question is how? And what made it go extinct in the first place? Also, what does this chocolate taste like? I’m so anxious to taste it. Thanks all! :D

It’s probably really expensive… good luck getting any. :"(

Seeds can germinate after decades.

Or more likely, this variety hadn’t been cultivated for a while but still existed in the wild.

A. encourage people to disregard social distinctions in choosing mates

Endogamy is the tendency to marry *within* a particular group. The answer is therefore ‘C’.

Anthropology/archaeology/theology majors?

April 2nd, 2012

So I’m thinking of going to nyu for anthropology. But I absolutely love archaeology. Is there a way to major in both of those at the same time? And another question, to study theology do you have to go into a career as a priest? And waht would you take for theology? Can you get a degree in all of it at once?

Well Anthropology is a large field which includes archaeology so yes you can major in both in fact its impossible to study archaeology without anthropology, it would be like saying I study calculus but not math. On the topic of theology… this is a harder nut to crack you would have to attent a school which offered both it is never impossible to dual major however often times the best theology schools are private religous schools such as St. Johns ect… but they rarely have quality anthropology programs I would consider a school like NYU where you could study Arch, and also world religions (which would also be a anthropology course) rather than theology.

Whatever you do they are just theories, intellectual information but the Truth is still hidden to most of humanity. Study some gnostic teachings I dare you you will find practices to find the mysteries of life and death and forthcoming cataclysms.

According to Mayans we are the son’s of the fifth Sun. The first son’s were devoured by the tiger, which means knowledge, in the bible it is represented as the tree of knowledge, these were the first son’s. The son’s of the second Sun were devoured by hurricanes and wind.
The son’s of the third Sun were devoured by fire and great earthquakes. These are the Lemur’s which lived at the pacific ocean, they were the first material race to appear on earth which left us the stone heads at Easter Island in the pacific.
The son’s of the fourth Sun were devoured by the water. This is the lost city of Atlantis Located in the depths of the ocean that carries its name the Atlantic Ocean. This was the fourth race which is described to us in the Universal Flood by Noah’s Arc.
Lastly the son’s of the fifth Sun were devoured by Fire and Apocalyptic Earthquakes. We are the Arians, we are feeling what we’ve done to the planet. Too bad we keep going to shopping centers and live as normal because scientists don’t want us to panic. Obviously church is not helping either they’re just benefiting from their believers. What can we do? Well we need to do what they did. We need to cooperate with the sun. They had God’s. Why? Cause they could see them. They even had contact with Big Brothers (space or so called extraterrestrials) they could laugh at the actual civilization with the fancy but useless medicine systems. They could laugh even at the religion’s that populate the earth because they knew we would make the same mistakes our ancestors did. That’s why a Savior needed to come and Christ the superior being of all of those masters had to die. To show us the real path. Too bad half of the occultism of the bible died when Constantine keep what it was worth to control the masses pushing in our minds a Blind Faith, instead of something practical.

So yep we have a LOT OF POTENTIAL it’s just that we let the systems and the power’s of the earth hide us the truth of the Spiritual world through a blind faith system.

I am Traveling to Spain, What are some must sees?

April 2nd, 2012

You could spend the three weeks just in Barcelona itself, it is a magnificent city to visit…All of the Architectural wonders created by GAUDÍ…The Sagrada Familia Church still under construction, La Pedrera, the Casa Batlló, The Parque Güell, etc. Then The Barrí Gothic, with its beautiful cathedral, the City Hall (Ayuntamiento), and many wonderful side streets…Tha Ramblas with their little florist stands all along to look at (and smell!). and el Liceo Opera House.Montjuich, the museums, the Columbus monument the Port area and dozens of other things. If you like theme parks spend a day at Port Aventura. Quite good. Also the zoo is excellent.Go along the coast to Sitges, a quaint little village worth visiting, and have some excellent fish at any one of the restaraunts there along the port and beach area..If you have enough time, and are interested in Dalí's work, drive up to Figueres, and see his museum..Or drive up to Andorra, stay overnight and drive back the next day…If you can afford it, take a flight to Madrid and stay at least 2 days to visit the center of the city and the fantastic museums.. You can do El Prado a bit hurried in a morning, and the Thyssen & Reina Sofía in an afternoon also hurried through, but worth the side trip. For another trip do southern Spain… fly into Málaga and make it your base, then take day trips to Granada, Sevilla, Córdoba, Ronda, Cadiz & Jerez de la Frontera, and relax a day or two on the Costa del Sol between visits…Spain could keep you busy for months!! I know, I've lived in Málaga province for nearly 34 years…and still haven't seen everything the country has to offer! 5 years ago Thank you. You seemed to be the only person who truely read the whole question. Thank you for giving your wonderful answer. I am going to try and visit as many of the wonderful place you recommened.
